“Our mission for Britain is both prosperity and justice for all”
- Gordon Brown, 27th September 2004

What Labour has achieved:
  • Economic stability and sustained growth: The British economy has continued to grow uninterrupted in every year of the past seven years. Labour has presided over the longest period of economic growth for 200 years. That means more jobs and more people making money.
  • Low unemployment: We have the lowest unemployment since the mid-1970s. Since Labour came to power in 1997, there are 1.9 million more people in work.

  • As a result:
  • Investment in public services is able to increase year-on-year. Long-term economic stability allows the government to plan ahead, in marked contrast to the stop-go Tory years.
  • Lower mortgage rates are saving mortgage payers an average of £2,600 a year compared to under the Conservatives.
  • This third term Labour government is committed to historic pledges to abolish child poverty within 20 years - halving it by 2010, and to achieve full employment in every region of the country.
